In addition to being an amazing
crew leader in the field, forest ecology has exposed me to some specialized
equipment and computer programs:
We use the Thermocron iButtons (DS1921) to measure temperature in
the field.
2048 values can be stored in the
small steel buttons. The buttons
are programmed to take measurements at intervals ranging from 1 to 255 minutes.
I have become fast and graceful
coring trees in the field and analyzing tree cores at the Tree Core Analysis
Station in the Basement of Winkenwerder.
I learned from the master Mike Tjoelker.
The HydroSense Soil Water Content Measurement System is a probe with instant results. We use it for the Temporal Variation Study at the H.J. Andrews.
Hemispherical PhotographerÑthatÕs
me. IÕll take pictures of the
canopy and analyze them using the Gap
Light Analyzer!
Working in the field with
Shelley Evans has increased my bryophyte ID skills. IÕve always found mosses to be beautiful overlooked life
forms, and I am thankful I can now name so many. Next IÕd like to find a slime mold enthusiast.
I am Red Carded and I try to get
recertified every year because fire ecology is especially interesting when you
see the flames!
