Most of my time
is spent based out of the H.J. AndrewÕs Experimental Forest near Blue River, Oregon. I lead a
field crew that collects data for a study designed by Charles Halpern and Martin Dvociak that attempts to
quantify the spatio-temporal variability of forest understory communities in
young and old coniferous forest.
Bunchgrass
Meadows is another study site located near Blue River. Treatments using
fire and fuels management are being evaluated as means to restore a dry montane
meadow experiencing conifer encroachment.

In 2005 and
2006 I was the field crew leader for Cara NelsonÕs study evaluating prescribed fire as a
tool for forest restoration and the implications for old growth ponderosa pine
mortality.

In 2005 I also
worked in the field for Charles Halpern on the DEMO sites. The DEMO Project is
a long term study designed to monitor the response of forest communities to
variable retention harvests. I was working on a study focusing on bryophyte
responses.
